Waiau Pa on the web

There are some new websites that will keep you informed about our area.

The web now offers a number of community websites from our own area. Apart from your local business association website (the one you are reading now), the Yellow Pages people have recently launched regional websites, some 200 for the Auckland region alone and yes, we appear to have one, too. Visit http://auckland.yellowlocal.co.nz/waiau-pa/ and see what you think.

Much better is http://www.coastads.co.nz/ which keeps you up-to-date on local developments. It is run by Julie Sexton, a brilliant investigative journalist, who will get to the bottom of issues that concern you. If you have interesting news to report or have concerns, get in touch with her now via her website.

And to round this up, a good source on what's happening in South Auckland is http://www.localist.co.nz/south. There's loads of information about every kind of activity and it is a social site - you can contribute and comment on any item.

Elsewhere, the new venue for our monthly meetings, the Clarks Beach Bowling Club, is popular because it offers all the facilities needed - convenient location, easy off-street parking, a large space and a licensed bar with very reasonable prices.

There are interesting speakers each month, often generating lively debate and by no means only of interest to businesses. We invite members of the public to attend, meet local business people and find out what's going on.

Last meeting had a very enthusiastic and dedicated Sarah Watson advise us on progress to establish a Civil Defence community response team. It seems this is taking shape and you will hear more from them soon. It is all about the community helping themselves in an emergency, being prepared for it and knowing what resources are available.
